Mats...couldn't agree more with you.

In Delhi during summer, when u run two fans and touch the side of the glass, you know things are OK !!

Common sense - the best thermometer :).

I agree on the common sense part.

I have been lucky with heaters that are dependent on thermostats which have never failed on me, ever (i damage them myself accidentally when their times comes). But even then, knowing the terrible quality of typical stuff that comes from China, i don't buy high wattage heaters. instead i use several small ones (say two or three).

i am mentioning this here even though this thread is about thermometers and not heaters; because my point is, never trust equipment as much as you can trust your common sense, and play safe and keep your fish and other livestock safe.

And btw, i have seen some excellent lab quality thermometers that did not use mercury. They use alcohol instead. :P Beautiful blood red coloured alcohol. why not try those?

I have seen sticker type thermos in LFS (don't know what to call them). Want to know if they work.

@Romi, where can I get the red liquid thermos

The liquid alcohol thermometers I have seen on sale at Darya Ganj, very old laboratory equipment shops there. The sticker thermometer I got was reliable for barely a year. As I suspected, and contrary to the shopkeepers claims, it wore out just like you would expect from such flimsy material. just a novelty.
