Few areas of Mosses in my first tank is having a black texture on it.

I want to dose Glut to it.
Earlier I dosed it with Glut when Riccia was not there, and the mosses looked much cleaner and greener.
Now I added few Ricca added in the rocks, and in that case will I dose Glut to a smaller extent.
Will the Ricca totally perish!! if I dose small bit of Glut.
Red arrow are Riccia, and yellow arrows are black texture on rocks and mosses.
What abt black out for 3 days!!!

Hello everyone

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I need help from you all.
I have a 66 litre/16 gallon tank with diy co2. I was planning to supplement it with Glutaraldehyde since I had some BBA problems of late due to inconsistent Co2. So I researched a LOT about the product & particularly liked this thread probably due to the simple dosage formulae given at the beginning of the thread.
So I bought myself a 25% Glut solution (500 ml) & went ahead with 1ml (as pointed by the formulae) dosage with a syringe yesterday evening , sprayed in front of my power filter.
Today morning I woke up to find a lot of empty snail shells floating around & two of my cardinal tetras dead !
Please tell me if I overdosed with 1 ml Glut for my 16 gallon tank. Should I have diluted it ? In what ratio.
Seachem Excel , which is only 1.5% Glut recommends 5ml dosage for 50 gallons i.e 1.6 ml for 16 gallons. By that logic a 1ml, 25% Glut dosage seem to be an overkill.

Please help me out since while I want to utilize the benefits of Glut in my planted tank, I do not want my aquarium inmates to suffer.

Never use Glut in tank at night. Always dose after light ON.

Now start with half ml in first day.
No dose in next day.
Increase dose in alternate days. There will be no issue of fish death. Dose only after light ON.

Thanks. I did keep my lights on while dosing glut. Maybe I should have started with 0.5 ml dose in the beginning. Will dose on alternate days from now on.

Thankfully no further casualties till now .
I was wondering though, does Glut affect/kills Nitrifying bacteria? My tank is 10 months old now & I am pretty sure it is fully cycled.

Hi Rajivji,

What if we prepare 1.5% solution of Glute and dose it as per Seachem excel dosing recomendations ??I am new to glute dosing hence asking.

Regards,

Lets consider we'll be using 25% glute to prepare 1.5% Glute solutions. Lets consider X ml 25% glute solution we'll be mixing with 1000 ml of RO water to prepare 1.5% glute solution

As 100 ml of Glute solution contains -- 25 ml of glute
1 ml of Glute solution contains -- 25/100 ml of glute
x ml of Glute solution contains -- (25/100 )*x ml of glute
-- 25x/100 ml of glute
-- x/4 ml of pure glute

Now we are going to add x amount of 25% glute to 1000 ml (1 ltr) of water to prepare 1.5% Glute solution

Hence, 1000+x ml of solution contains -- x/4 ml of glute
1 ml of solution contains -- (x/4) / (1000+x) ml of glute
100 ml of solution contains -- { x/(4000+4x) }*100 ml of glute
-- 100x / (4000+4x)
Now as we considered adding x ml of glute in 1000 ml of water will result in 1.5% glute solution .

hence 100x/(4000+4x) = 1.5 (1.5% Glute solutions means 100 ml solution contains 1.5 ml of glute)
100x = 6000 + 6x
94x = 6000
x = 63.82 ml

64 ml of 25% glute solution needs to be added in 1000 ml of RO water to create 1.5 % of Glute solutions.

Please confirm above
