Considering taking the plunge
Hi,
I have always loved the color and patterns and the behavior of these beautiful creatures and recently came across a pair of really dark blue discuss pair that i absolutely fell in love with. The asking price is within my price range.
What do you'll think? Should i take the plunge? if i do.....should i remove my dwarf cichlids and keep them in the planted tank i already have running? or should i start up a new barebottom setup for them?

Just cos it happened to you is no means for you to claim that it will happen to me. Exceptions aren't the rule.

Discus need lots of care and time. If can spare time, you can go, otherwise a big NO.

I always make time for my fish bro They are my lil babies!
Big Question is what sorta tank? I know there are two school of thoughts on this. I just cant think of keepin a fish like the discuss in bare bottom tank.
Why is that the are supposed to be kept in BB tanks?

Hi zakk
you can go for a planted tank if they are 4+ inch size or they are a confirmed pair.As you mensioned they are Blue based, they surely Rocks your Planted tank.
I also buy some blue based discus from Cochin one week before.(I personally not saw them. My friend bought it for me .They are with my friends aquarium tank.)They are blue diamond and blue turques.I will collect them this Weekend
BTW what strain of discus you are going to buy?
If you are going for planted tank with discus, Please feed them with Tetra bits ot Biogold.Dont always go for beaf mix in planted discus tank because they may reduce the watre quality .

Re: Considering taking the plunge
Hi Ratheesh,
They are almost 4inches in size but to play it safe, i will say they are at lil over 3 inches. One of them is 4 inch out the 4 that are in the tank. They are in a tank with marlboro and blue snake skin. I honestly have no idea what the strain is. will drop into the shop in the evening and take a pic of them and hopefully someone who is experienced in keeping discuss can id the strain. or maybe tomorrow. will use my Nokia's P&S to take some pics cos pics on the BB tend to be bad esp for close ups.

Re: Considering taking the plunge
Ok zakk.
If you are going to buy discus from any LFS , you have to buy as as fast as possible.
from my experiences , "more the day the discus stay in LFS tank, more they stressed and infected".
Because mejority of LFS not do any water changes or proper feeding. Also the rush in the LFS always stress the discus.
Also check for the health of discus
their eyes, shape, colouration, Gills,Eye-Body ratio ,their responses to the food , breatings etc
