Do it yourself is fun for me. And I feel very happy when someone come up with new innovative ideas. DIY in not always comes in cheap. Following chemicals of a good make, like LOBA, MERK will cost you almost Rs 1000/-. But yes its a lifetime investment and atlist 10L to 15L solution can be prepared. We need following chemicals to prepare Drop checker Solution:
Bromothymol blue
Sodium bi Carbonate (NaHCO3)
Laboratory grade Distilled water
Measuring cylinder
Weighing scale
Calculation part :-
1.2g NaHCO3 + 1000 ml Distilled water = 40dKH Solution
50 ml of 40dKH Solution + 450ml Distilled water = 500ml of 4dKH Solution
500ml of 4dKH Solution + pinch of Bromothymol Blue
Ready to use
Hardware preparation:
There are different way to make a simple hardware part to hold the solution inside it. The basic working principle is as follows.. Dissolved CO2 in water constantly releases from water and it gets dissolves into the dye solution present in the hardware and changes its colour. In normal condition the solution is become blue. With 4dKH solution, it gets green in colour when water saturated with CO2 at 30ppm. And turns yellow when CO2 concentration in water crosses 30ppm. The dye uses in this solution is a week indicator which takes time to change colour, normally 2-3hrs it takes.
I searched net to try with different DIY drop checker hardware and found upside down 'U' acrylic one most attractive. Please refer pictures for details.... Rajiv ji will upload pictures for me
The most easy way to make is bend a transparent water pipe in 'S' form and place it inside tank like "~" this way. The solution should be on the left side of the curb and closed with silicon. Two suction cup can hold it easily.
