How to setup your own Worm Bin

i have had a worm bin for three years now. Unfortunately, rats raid the worm bin. Once they get the taste, they beome a nuisance. So if they are around u must change the site of the bin. Goldfish are, as maaz says indirectly, basically vegetarian. So feed them blanched spinach, elodea, lettuce etc.. and worms only once twice weekly. Large cichlids on other hand, are often nonvegetarians! These worms are the best adult fish life food then, and the easiest to grow..

the substrate after some time can be harvested as manure. It is excellent, u use just one handful per potted plant since its very rich. If u don't remove it periodically, the space for worms will run short. Harvest no more than half at one time. It is sold in nurseries as vermicompost, even exported abroad. Price around 50 rupees a kg.

this is indeed a very good information for us to set up a breeding bin of earthworms, want to do it at home but the only prob i dont know where to buy some earthworms in chennai, i tried digging up home but nothing found, anyone in chennai willing to share a few worms kindly let me know, will pay ....

Bachelors wont be having any problems creating bins...but for married guys they'll have to pay a heavy price for obtaining the permission .

Ordinary earthworms prefer soil, not compost. the best species that grows fastest and does not try to run from the container (yes, they can wiggle out, especially an Indian species i can't remember the name off the cuff, common name Blue Worms), is Eisenia fetida. They can be obtained from any vermicompost farm. This species is currently being kept by me, Vijendra, and Vishaal, and Syed Ali has also experience with it.

Gooogle this species. You will find a million and one images and websites. This is THE compost bin worm.

Perionyx excavatus? Indian blue worm. Tends to run away!
