Have seen such sheets black in color for sale in Bangalore. Can check if they are still there.

also check the size of the pores...it should be around 4-5 mm...smaller will clog after some time

36x18x2 -900/-
12x5x1 -150/-
No idea about pore size but the ones i have are very dense work great in a canister. If any one wants to see they can at my place or if required will post a pic as sample. Its available in large quantity also.

What are these sponges sold for, basically? If they have closed pores, they cannot work in your canister. So i am presuing they are open pore.... Also, if open pore, water should pass almost instantly through them, but if closed pore, it wouldn't. At least not that rapidly.
