i got a sachet twice. yes, they sell fake tetrabits in sachets also. The dealer was very embarassed when i told him it was fake but he was not surprized. i fed it to my goldfish, who ate it with gusto. But the other fish habituated to real Tetrabits didn't. the packing looked tacky too but i wanted to try it, even though i was already suspicious when i took it. yes, it was cheap!
was it just a plain plastic bag, or somehow officially labeled as TB?
The sealed foil, batch number etc can be also found in fake tetrabits, IME the way to check is:
1- Label is shiny/glossy- fake
2- Tetrabits sink like a rock, very very fast- fake
3- Fish do not like them very much- fake
Original stuff is available with very few people, AFAIK.
somethingfishy (email them), aquashoppe.in and maybe aquaria (mumbai).. havent seen anywhere else
What I did to check the origin, I have an app QRReader for iPhone (I believe they have other smartphone versions as well, or you can use any barcode reader app), I just scanned the barcode using the app and got detail information about the product.
@ romi. Have you ever tried separating the tetra bits into two cans ( I keep the old bottle) and then using the bits at the base of both bottles separately. This is usually much smaller in size and no need to break it into smaller pieces, and the bigger pieces then can be used by the big fish.
