parachanna obscura

Unread post by jibran_shariff »

this fish has been an enigma for me
ever since i saw pics of this fish i had to keep one
and i got lucky to keep one

when i got this fella he was hardly 2.5"ish quite frail looking blighter.
these fish are nocturnal, thus never saw this fella to be active, but mostly lying around in and around the driftwood branches in its 90 gallon tank
not only are these fish lazy but are also the most adept hunters, with the ability to swallow fish which are almost twice the size of its head, i have seen puntius conchonius of 1.5" size going missing in the tank once in every two days, when this fella is hardly 4.5"

these fish have growth spurts based on availability of food, there have been weeks when it hasn't grown at all and then there is a week when it has shown growth of at least 5mm

it hunting technique is amazing, i have seen this fella go beside a driftwood branch and just disappear into it as if it was never there and then just explode when a feeder comes close to it

i have also seen this fish stand vertical among the vallisneria in its tank and sway along with the long leaves trying to blend into it

also this fish seems to change color on wish from light colored to dark color based on its surroundings

anyways enough of my banter and here are the pics

Nice fish.
Do you have any photograph of hunting time?
