I kept them for a brief period in a fish only single species tank. They were peaceful towards other datnoides in the tank. Didn't like the way they kept dangling here and there in the tank hence returned after 2 months.

They are specialist fish for sure...

Those stripes are irresistable, but a lot of things to watch out for. Never keep two, one or 5, for instance. Many of them being wild caught will not be used to dry food and will die before they realise it is edible... They grow large enough to need large tanks even for a single fish, though they grow slowly.. long-term commitment.

hmmm datnoides polota or datnoides quadrifasciatus are very much the same fish

it took me close to 2 years to grow 10 specimens of 10mm-15mm babies to 6 specimens 5.5", 4 of them were cannibalized as they took more time to grow

as they grew bigger they were more aggressive as well more shy, always in hiding and during feeding would dart out from their caves and get back inside with the same speed

a 6 sqft footprint tank should suffice for at least 4-5 years for a group of 4.

it sometimes is a challenge to get them onto dry foods if they are already grown up, but if they are young of the year then they should accept pellets very easily

have extremely large mouths and you will be surprised when they swallow a fish you thought was big enough for them
