Sodium Bicarbonate Weight to Volume
Guys,
I am preparing a DIY Co2 drop checker solution for which i need 4dkh reference solution. I don't have a mini measuring scale to measure 1.2g of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). I have a (2ml) syringe which can be useful if anyone can help me with the calculations.
So the question is how many g = 1ml of baking soda? (weight to volume).
Found this link on net http://www.onlineconversion.com/weight_ ... ooking.htm but still want to double confirm.

Re: Sodium Bicarbonate Weight to Volume
Can you rephrase your query with correct units please?
especially the "1ml" of baking soda part, either let us know the PPM/molarity/%by volume.

Re: Sodium Bicarbonate Weight to Volume
I am talking about dry powder weight in volume.
For eg:
If I put 1.2g of baking soda powder in a measuring cylinder (in this case 2ml syringe) how many ml will it be?

2ml, because salt dissolves and volume doesnt change

Re: Sodium Bicarbonate Weight to Volume
The link in my first post says 1g =1.071 ml for baking soda (average). Its based on its density so what is the density of our baking soda which we use for cooking

I am not so sure...
I expect soda bicarbonate to be difficult to measure by volume. Grain/crystal size might influence density of granular substances like soda bicarbonate. That itself MIGHT explain why the density you have quoted is an average.
If I were you I would find out the solubility of soda bicarbonate at my ambient temperature and go from there to create a saturated soda bicarbonate stock solution.

Re: Sodium Bicarbonate Weight to Volume
It turns out 125 kg of soda bicarb dissolves in 1000 kg of water at 40 deg celcius. http://www.tatachemicals.com/europe/pro ... bility.pdf
So 2 ml will dissolve 0.25 gm of soda bicarb.
Did my method make any sense?

I think baking soda which we use in cooking all over India has same proportions.deepesh wrote:I am not so sure...

How will you achieve 40dkh solution by this method? (i.e the first stage of DIY drop checker solution ===> mixing 1.2g of baking soda in 1000ml of distilled water will give 40dkh reference solution)deepesh wrote:If I were you I would find out the solubility of soda bicarbonate at my ambient temperature and go from there to create a saturated soda bicarbonate stock solution
Not clear how this will help me to get 40dkh reference solution. As i said in post above I want to measure 1.2g baking soda but i dont have app scale for it, so trying to measure the same in ml (DRY Baking Soda - No dissolving in water)It turns out 125 kg of soda bicarb dissolves in 1000 kg of water at 40 deg celcius. http://www.tatachemicals.com/europe/pro ... bility.pdf

I am referring to the densities mentioned in this link http://www.onlineconversion.com/weight_ ... ooking.htmSodium Bicarbonate Weight to Volume
