Chiller Project
Am looking for an external pump of good quality, preferably non submersible for a new chiller project. Any advice or suggestions are welcome.

Re: Chiller Project
Ok...reviving this old thread.
After my rescaped tank is up, I plan to take up this project on a war footing. I lost quite a bit of plants during this summer, hence am determined to control the temperature next summer.
My plan is to start a journal on this. The idea is basically this :
1. Buy an ice box of roughly 5 ltrs capacity. The ice box will act as an insulator. A good ice box (Coleman or Milton) of this capacity is approximately Rs.1000.
2. Buy 1/2 inch tubing of roughly 10 feet. Will cover this with AC coil foam. This is the black/white insulating foam we see on split AC pipes. I have not checked the prices, but do not see this going beyond Rs.200. The foam will help control heat exchange between the tubes and air outside.
3. One circulating pump which has intake and outflow barbs. An example is the Eheim Universal pump. By current pricing standards, this is approximately Rs.3000, but I need to check if cheaper alternatives are available.
4. Add a temperature controller to switch on the pump at temps above 26 degrees.
The final objective is to bring down the temperature from an ambient room level of 34 degrees in May/June to roughly 26 degrees - an 8 degree drop.

Re: Chiller Project
For how long the container can hold ice cubes? if it cannot keep it for more than 12 hrs one will have to top up ice twice daily. Which practically will be impossible i guess.

Once before leaving for office, once after returning from office. Two sets of bottles - one inside the ice box, one in the freezer.
