Re: Betta - Care-Tank-Compatibility ?
Ideal Tank size: People keep them in bowl, I prefer a 1cubic feet tank.
Water parameters : Kept Sumer's wild caught betta smagardina for some months where the water parameters was Ph- 5.0, TDS - 40.
For the domestic ones I keep IAL thats it.
Temperature :26+
Feeding : Wild one I feed it artemia, mosquito larvae, grindal. Domestic ones NLS, Hikari Betta, frozen blood worm.
Tank Mates : No Idea.
Invert compatibility : Good for the betta breakfast if you have shrimps in mind , snails are ok.
Tank Décor :Keep it simple with a driftwood.
Types of Commonly available Betta : Question is what you want?
Can help you in getting half moon, elephant ear, super delta, plakat.

Re: Betta - Care-Tank-Compatibility ?
Tank Size: It may range from a small glass to bigger tanks, depends how one wants to see his betta. I keep them in 6" x 6" cubes.
Water parameters: Its a tough fish due to its ability to breath oxygen directly from atmosphere, Ph ranges from 6.5 - 8.5. I use untreated tap water for betta, so far never had any casualty. But I do put Almond leaves in all my betta tanks.
Temperature: From 19deg C - 32deg C I have keept them successfully without any heater.
Feeding: Mosquito larva are the best food for betta, specially from colouration & breeding point of view. They also love frozen bloodworms, dried bloodworms, microflex, Hikari betta bio gold, tetra bits. Feeding can range from once or twice in a day.
Tank Mates: Tetras, guppies, usually avoid keeping them with aggressive fishes. Never keep two bettas together, x gallon per betta formula doesnt work; in due course of time they will end up injuring each other. If one is successful in breeding them and raising the frys all the bettas (siblings) can be kept together (yes males & females), but the moment you jar out any betta, it cannot be mixed again with them or else it will starting fighting.
Invert compatibility : Snails
Tank Décor: from planted tanks to bare bottom anything.

Re: Betta - Care-Tank-Compatibility ?
Ideal Tank size:
Tank size depends on the type of tail
If the betta is of a long tailed variant I would go with a smaller tank size a 1' cube would be my choice
If it is a small tailed betta I usually go for a 2'x1'x1' tank.
Water parameters : I am not very particular about water parameters with any of my tanks
D not mess around with pH and other params, idea is acclimatize slowly
Other than that my betta tanks have very very less water current
Temperature : temp is maintained at 28-29 deg Celsius
Feeding : hikari bet ta bio gold 4 times a week other than that it eats whatever neocaridina shrimps it catches
Tank Mates : some neocaridina shrimps in one Berta tank and in the other too there are neocaridina shrimps along with a long nosed whiptail catfish
Invert compatibility : shrimplets are good for diet the snails help in algae elimination
Tank Décor : gravel in both tanks
One tank has a large bunch of anubias Nana and the other has anubias barteri along with vallisneria spiralis
Also added some terracotta cave like structures
Types of Commonly available Betta
Half moons
Plakats
Crown tails
Delta tails

Same here. I was under the impression that larger tailed ones would require more space.vijendra_s123 wrote:Whats the logic behind this? sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but I am just a novice in betta keeping....jibran_shariff wrote:Ideal Tank size:

Re: Betta - Care-Tank-Compatibility ?
The idea is to provide lesser swimming area to the longer tailed bettas so that they don't stress themselves
As the long tail is supposed to be a hindrance to their swimming

The long tailed bettas do better in smaller tanksAbhi wrote:
A few of the breeders I have spoken to suggest that a smaller tank is a better bet as with a tighter space the betta is bound to do better
