Scarlet Badis of Badis Badis?

Unread post by koipondguy2 »

Hello,

Just confused. I thought I got Dario Dario from my local LFS but did I put a badis badis in my RCS tank by mistake? The fish is not red in color and has shades of blue and black.

Looks like a Badis to me. There are two Dario species, apparently. One is exclusively from Burma, and less bright than that little sparkling gem we call Dario dario.

But this seems to be a Badis sp. to me. vijjy, Bappa or Vishal should speak up now 8-)

I thought Jaintia hills was not confirmed a species but race. But I googled it just now and it seems there are four Darios now! Wow, fantastic. Big change from the time fish keepers kept just Dario dario. I think if fed well with live food and hopefully frozen food also, each has unique beauty.

There is a Dario endemic to South India even, it seems.

The count is four now, including the Jaintia beauty ! coolbig

@koipondguy, why don't you feed it live food and see if it colours up better? You might want to keep it then.... :P

Looks like a Badis sp. Buxar to me, a clear pic would surely help for identification, as Abhi has mentioned it is a 'Badis' and either is a Buxar or a singenensis. Which ever it is, is not good to be kept with shrimps, they hunt the shrimps in groups and I have even seen them tear a shrimp which was an inch in size apart.

So if you love your shrimps then take these two out immediately.
