Unread post by SCORPIO »

One of my relative have a tank of 48X18X18 inch tank. He want to setup a Piranha fish biotope. I want to help him in setting up this tank. I want to know following information from all of you:
1. Is this tank is sufficient for these fishes?
2. Ideal filtration
3. Light
4. Decoration
5. Best food available in market
6. Availability of Piranha fish in Delhi/NCR
7. Any other information

I've heard that original piranhas (red bellied piranha) are not available for hobby and is also illegal.
The one which we get in shops is pacu.

In my Opinion, this tank is not at all suitable for a Pirahana.. It's a huge fish that grows upto 2+ feet and they grow fast. Pirahana i India actually are Pacu's...They will not grow to their full potential in this tank and will shorten their life span..

I have dealt with this..

I want real Piranhas. Once I saw those in Mumbai. I also know 2-3 piranha keepers in India. In absence of Piranha, I will go for a soal of six silver dollars.

IMO 2 piranaha can be house in this tank with good filteration, thy grow upto 1feet . generally LFS dont hv Red-bellied piranha becz of less demand, u need 2 order it at LFS , i saw once RB piranha at my place.
live food is best fr piranaha,
as piranha r native to South America u can add lots of driftwood,

True.

Piranha are definitely on sale still. I have seen red bellies often. Pacu and piranha are easy to tell apart, so they could not have been pacus.

Silver Dollars is clearly a much better idea.
