35l Bonsaipaludarium
Hi folks!
Last weekend I setup a new, small paludarium. Inspired by a video from Exotic Aquatic I found on the web 3 weeks ago, I just wanted to try something with a bonsai, a bonsaiscape.
I used a 35l tank for this layout, size is lxdxh 40x32x28cm. Hardscape is black lava, ground is normal white sand. The root ball of the bonsai was planted in soil. The lighting is 8W LED. In the middle of the hardscape is a little stream that is driven by a pump with 150l/h. The pump is hidden under the hardscape. There are just native plants, such as mosses and clover, some Fissidens fontanus, Riccardia spec. and the Bonsai. This paludarium is a test tank, low-tech and low maintenance. I wonder how it will develop in the next weeks.
Hope you like it

This looks really good! Would like to see how you managed to keep the bonsai at the top since it requires less water i suppose.

Hi folks!
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
I placed the root ball circa 6-7cm above the water surface, so waterlogging at the roots isn't possible. I hope this will work. It's a just test...zico_aqua wrote:Would like to see how you managed to keep the bonsai at the top since it requires less water i suppose.

This is very ingenious. You have very good taste, Serok! So many of us have tried trees after the AGA aquarium of the Spaniard showed a tree....worldwide. But you just took am equally pretty tree (more real) and put it in a paludaarium.. ........Except for the water clarity (just a little niggle), there is nothing here that can be placed better than you have.
Some interesting shrimp, perhaps just one or two, the larger type that has some interesting claw or two, for instance, would be so cool in the water portion in a set up like this one.

Thank you very much Romi!
The water is a bit foggy cause I made the photo straight after I filled in the water
For now I don't want to put inhabitants in there. This would cause more technic, and I want the keep this tank lowtech and low maintenance.
Of the Spaniard? You mean Filipe Oliveira?Romi wrote:the AGA aquarium of the Spaniard showed a tree
