This is an important point to consider before buying these rods/connecters.

you have to get the connectors first. with the connectors you know the inner diameter of the alu rods.
mostly 1.5 mm - 2 mm wall thickness is used.

i think it is not advisable to use screw joints, since the weight and stability of the whole stand will focus on the tiny screws and screw holes only...i think it will not be stable and buckling resistant enough.

Do you have a sample of the connector ? May we can have someone make something similar for us or may be available with certain manufacturers that supply industrial supplies not available in the retail market. I know a few aluminium tube manufacturers and they always keep looking at bringing in new products, may be if they find a suitable need and sales for it they could might as well put it under production.
