Change 50% water twice a week during the cycling duration.

abartar wrote:Thanks. I am still wondering if glut will kill the beneficial bacteria than how come there will be bacterial boom next morning - leading to cloudy water.

maybe it is the other way round. glut is a source of carbon. bacteria need carbon. so if you dose much carbon, the bacteria do not die, but bloom.
same happens in marine water tanks: regular dosing of wodka provides carbon for beneficial bacteria, they propagate faster and the denitrification is better.

maybe same happens in your tank..

To be honest to me it seems as an early sign of cyano-bacteria attack! do a drastic 80% WC I would say everyday if possible for 2 weeks, this should reduce the spike, if i'm not wrong you had used a DIY substrate right? if yes, check if the lower layers are leaching or not, if so try to cover em' up. To me it seems that the lower substrate layer had organic content left which is decomposing and in turn leaching out. Not to worry, simply change water frequently it'll stabilise soon enough.

Yes I did use DIY substrate but the lower layers are not leaching as the water was crystal clear prior to dosing glut. Also it has happened twice that the morning after the dosing the water has become whitish. Both the times it was crystal clear before dosing. Also the water clears outs within a day. Cyno bacteria if I am not wrong gives slightly bluish-green colour.

Well bacteria bloom due to increase in carbon source looks more logical but then what is the solution - reducing the dose and increasing the frequency so that the plants could consume whatever has been provided?

cyano bacteria end up forming a white layer on top of the substrate, IMO put in a big bag of activated charcoal in your filter if there is an issue in terms of water chemistry it will get sorted out. plus try changing the carbon every week for next 3 weeks guess it should sort out. plus yes add loads of stem plants as of now to control nutrient imbalance, post which you can go ahead and remove them. plus another reason of reason of cyano-bacteria is high nitrite content..do drastic Wc as I stated before things should stabilize..best of luck my man!

1 ml will be sufficient in starting days. At present you have not so much plants to consume more dose. Can you display a picture of your tank?

amount to be dosed depends on the volume of the tank as well as the density of plantation. full specs of tank and a pic as already discussed by Rajiv ji would be more helpful in sorting out the problem.
