T5 and T8 Light

Unread post by abhis »

Hi Guys,

Can you explain in detail what's difference between T5 & T8 !!

Also want to know more details about T5 &T8 - what are the different wattage, size of the tube, Kelvin rate,
availability etc. etc.

Also want to know how they differ with PLL !!

Thanks
Abhis

these are the differences i heard of:

1. T5 has a smaller diameter of the tube than T8 (T5=16 mm, T8=26 mm)
in normal case you use both with a reflector.
due to the bigger diameter, the T8 shadows itself more than the T5...less light gets into your aquarium.
right now i do not know how much less, but apparently it is measurable.
2. T5 tubes come with higher wattage than T8...at same length. and T5 is even available in HO. that means more light at same length.
3. T5 have their performance peak at 35C, T8 at 25C...usually we have reflectors or even covers...the temperature around the tubes is higher than 25C...T5 performs better at higher temps

Kelvin:
5500K-6500K is most similar to daylight. colours appear naturally. below 5500K the light gets yellowish, beyond 6500K it gets blueish.
you have to try what you like most.

for colours of light google "light colour 865", "light colour 965"
the 65 at the end means: 6500K
965 is the better and more authentic daylight one, but i was not able to get it in delhi. only 865 is available...but it is still ok.
just do not buy 765, 665 or lower

PLL: i think it is just a bend and compact form of T5...but am not sure

the main difference is of diameter and electricity consumption.
