nymphaea helvola growing by hot/cold method
i have planted it in a 10" glass fish bowl with 3" of garden soil and vermi compost mix.i planted it in first week of march.the glass bowl has been placed in a 14" plastic pot...low depth type, and the gap between the bowl and the pot is filled with coco peat.which is kept moist.
the pot is now kept in my balcony with 3-4 hours of sunshine in the morning.the first bloom opened on 3rd june.
the coco peat insulation helps keep the small volume of water in the glass bowl cool....yet the waterlily gets its direct sun also.....hence the hot/cold method

Now I am just waiting for Romi to come and see this. He is a fan of dwarf water lilies.
Great plant and great cultivation. I keep my duckweed in an earthenware pot (ghada) and temps are in the high twenties even when the air temps are in the low to middle thirties. So I too keep it out in the sun. Beautiful flower.

I am delighted to see this thread, buddy. I don't know what to make a fuss over .... About your getting a true dwarf lily finally, after such a long wait, or about your this ingenious hot-cold method ..... yipee!
