Breeding Crystal Red Shrimps
hi
want to share some experience i have gathered with CRS in the past year.
last march i got 15 young CRS from a friend.
they were about 1cm big and came in different grades.
they grew up nicely and steady, with good coloration.
i feed them tetra bits and sera shrimp food 3 x weekly, however they do not really like shrimp king pellets
FTS: 50l, 37W PLL, no CO2, no ferts, no glut, substrate: sand
after 5 months i did one of the weekly water changes and lost 12 of them...i suppose it was high chlorine due to the rainy season.
three survived, but lost a lot of their colour.
i was lucky to get 7 new young shrimps from the same blood line in october.
beginning of december the adult ones started to swim like crazy in the tank, and 2-3 weeks later:
female carrying eggs (this is one of survivors which lost a lot of colour in july)
beginning of january i found the first shrimplets
size difference
they seem to be established and grow nicely.
learnings:
- CRS are sensitive pansies, unlike RCS
- they need a matured tank
- some breeders strongly advised me not to change the tank setup while keeping CRS in it...any change will disturb the micro flora&fauna and might cause losses of CRS
- weekly water changes...the shrimps need minerals, which only a water change (or lavish use of certain, costly salt) can provide.
- do not mix bloodlines (as a beginner): i had the possibility to get some more CRS from another blood line, but i was advised by some breeders not to mix both blood lines, because both carry different bacteria and are not used to the bacteria of the other blood line...losses among the CRS are likely.
- seed shrimps do not harm directly the CRS, but in large numbers they annoy the CRS by their sheer presence...and are food competitors to the shrimplets...but i have no idea how to get rid of them without loosing some shrimplets
suggestions and advices are welcome

Re: My experience with Crystal Red Shrimps
They are one of most beautiful sp. of shrimps.
Once I have sourced those but unfortunately, 11 out 12 has been dead in the way. Rest one dead at my place.
Hope you will get desired success in breeding them.

Re: Breeding Crystal Red Shrimps
Nice write up Wojtek, liked it a lot
Some things from me -
Weekly water change can be done till 15-25% and preferably a mix of RO and little tap water, just concentrating on the tds is more than enough
The salt you have said - are primarily used for PRL's, and higher grade crs, king kong, ruby red etc. and also for sulawesi shrimps. I have used it and happy with the results.
About not mixing the brood line -
I have something to say here- if you keep only one brood due to excessive amount of inbreeding your brood stock genetics finally will be weaken, so what I personally do - select good looking from a batch 1 and some good looking from batch 2 and keep them in a separate tank, let them breed and again after 6-8 months carry out the operation.

Re: Breeding Crystal Red Shrimps
thanks guys
those guys recommended for me as a beginner with CRS to keep 1 blood line only and learn how to keep and breed them...once experienced, selective breeding with other blood lines may follow...at least this was their recommendation.
you are absolutely right...but you are not a beginner with shrimps...you are a senior shrimp keeper who knows how to handle sensible cases.Abhishek wrote: About not mixing the brood line -
