It is very difficult to find good quality bettas in India. This is because we just don't have enough people to pay enough for quality, and even many who do pay do not get as good a quality as they deserve, sellers being less than honest.

But this betta is indeed quite a crowntail. I do not recall seeing an indian betta this quality on aquapetz. :thumup

can you share with us your source?

@romi : thank you for the appreciation. It is indeed difficult to find good bettas in india especially good crowns.
However, that being said, i am not too happy with this guy other than the color and thick rays, hoping it grows out better and rays develop better.
If you see closely, it has uneven ray splits at 2 odd places, however for me it is a great start. the dorsal fins are outstanding on this guy.

@shergil: thanks. around 2 inch

The word beautiful is not enough for the guy. It is excellent.

That's a beautiful fish. Hope I am right this time around. ;) Regardless of the uneven splitting of the rays you mention the fish carries a great combination of genes.

The division of one or two rays is a random event in development. I mean the genes decide the pattern of division and elongation but cannot control the uneven division of one or two particular rays. If you had uneven rays all around then yes it's a genetic problem but this appears to be an environmental influence on development.

@scorpio : Thanks rajivji

@deepesh : I think after the previous "discussion" on bettas about dragons and the way the thread was closed abruptly without any reason and fruitlful outcome, I dont think I have the authority in this "aquatic hobbyists' "/photography enthusiasts forum to say that you are wrong or right..!
More importantly, I doubt that the members here want to learn and improve or just want to enjoy the pics/fish being thrown at them.

So I can share links/info on the details about finnage/genotypes in general offline if you want.

Regards,
Ashish
