No alge no snail healthy lush green

best medium to tie ferns
just attach them to a piece of roof tile and tie with plastic thread
you can place them in pockets of drift wood etc...
enjoy the growth

Use organic thread... plastic thread can sometimes choke roots of epiphytics. Especially the micro species.
By the time the thread melts off the plant would've clinged on to the hardscape
