Feather fin catfish
Hi all,
I have recently added a featherfin catfish to my SA chiclids tank with oscars in it.
I m not able to feed my catfish as all other fishes gulp whatever i put & even they dont spare algae wafers or tetrabits pellets .
Catfish is healthy at 4-5inch long but worried how long it will survive without sufficient diet.
So, my Silver dollars eat oscars poo so does catfish also eats it.
Kindly advice what can be done.
Thanks & Regards,
Rahul Aggarwal

No fish eats poo
And feather fin catfishes are very resilient and tame, don't worry about them they will fight it out and get their fair share of food

You silver dollar might be getting food from the messy eating habits of Oscars

Sir...nature has created specific creatures which survive on the waste of other creatures. Fish are certainly NOT one such creature.
Oscars are known for throwing food around and are not the most well behaved in a tank when food is thrown in. Whatever food is wasted and drops to the bottom, thats what the silver dollars are eating.

Well, although its true that they gobble the wasted food which chiclids blow out of there gills like oscars but they do eat Oscar poo as its partially digested & hence it helps to keep your tank clean.
For reference ,kindly check the site:http://www.oscarfishlover.com/keeping-s ... ticles-114 for reference.
Also, i want to increase the shoal from 4 to 6 nos. in my tank as it helps keep them happy when in bigger shoal & more cleaning staff better it is.
Thanks & Regards,

Re: Feather fin catfish
if you want to feed your fish half digested poop. fine by all means.
Both jibran_shariff & apuda2010 are senior (experienced) aquarists and you should consider their word. If you want to go for internet gobbledygook instead, fine by all means too.

Mr Naufil,
Well, neither i questioned or challenged anybody.
Nor you should tell me to do or follow anything as this forum is to share experiences and ask opinions.
I respect guys with knowledge & experience but if i m observing something myself & same is available on internet i cant accept it if i am told opposite about same.
I think learning is a never ending process & even seniors can also learn from juniors at times.
Also,i m feeding best foods available in industry & poo is eaten by silver Dollar on there own choice which not me or you can deny them by our wish as this behavior has been inculcated in them by god.
Anyways i suggest you to just share your experiences & don't tell anyone to follow anything.
