Fish Exchange Aquapetz

Unread post by Romi »

1. Do you have fish that you have bred or have extra ?

2. Fishes need to come from different gene pools to make healthy babies. Brother-sister or similar pairings can damage fish quality just as easily as breeding related dogs, cattle, or other pets. Do you want the same species you have so that u can breed unrelated fish and have healthy, better quality babies?

3. You can also exchange a species of fish for something new if are bored. u will save money, and probably the fish's life because u will not make enough effort to keep a fish u no longer want healthy in most cases! Wouldn't u be happy if a good aquarist took that fish that you once loved and want continued care for even if u want something else now?

4. Do you simply want to make a new friend and offer a budding aquarist something to make them smile?

IF your answer is Yes to the foregoing, make a post in this thread and help things along.

And please don't insist someone trusts u before u trust them. That is petty. When u give something away, it is always yours. When u keep it and lose it, it is gone.

I have a single Synodontis eupterus, 6 inches. It lives in a small earthern matki ;) Since it is a catfish, it likes to eat in lights out. But when i add food after lights out, the snails also eat it and explode in population. I have malayan trumpet snails, and i dont want to kill them. instead, i guess it would be better to get some other fish instead.

if anyone has a tank with no snails, i can offer this interesting and healthy fish in exchange for any species of fish they might have that i might want.

Hey Romi thanks for starting a very helpful and much needed thread specially for our region (where usually we dont get anything besides substandard goldfish in LFSs)

I totally agree with you on varying the gene pool of fishes to maintain their quality. We always buy pairs from a single source (where 99.99% they belong to the same gene) By exchanging them amongst ourselfs we can atleast try our best to improve or maintain their quality.

Great idea... However, we may need location specific threads for this, IMO.

I have the following for exchange/Sale in Mumbai:
  • 1. Albino Giant Gourami : ~13-14 inches
    2. 2 x Tiger Oscars (one usual, one albino): ~12-13 inches
    3. One Jaguar Cichlid (Parachromis managuensis): ~13 inches
Looking for:
  • Large specimen of Severums (Red or Green)
    Vieja Argentea
    Uaru sp
    Sting Rays

Can settle for large specimen of:
  • Florida Gars
    Black Ghost knifefish
    ...
    ...

@sushant and @vijendra

my pleasure, buddies. There is so much we can do to not only make our fish happier and healthier, but to improve the quality of the species sold. Let us hope all the members take this thread seriously and do their bit in getting each needy fish across to the right owner :P

@sidrock
thanks.

great fish!
