Edison is a good option, I have been using them for around an year now without problem. Most burnt led case is due to bad thermal contacts or high current so these are things that cannot be ignored.

I had already pointed that out that in my case i knw the reason of burn out, it was bad fixing. 10 watt i recommend as its single fix, you can mount that on CPU heat sink, you can easily screw it down.

Please see this topic in beginning and let me know, how many LEDs will be sufficient for each setup. I would like to have only 5 watt/10 watt LEDs.

BTW some very interesting(amusingly funny, very..) stuff check this link
http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/showt ... p?t=513025

And if you want to do your sincere homework, please check this link. The best you can ask for on the net.
http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/showt ... p?t=168999

Then read this as a primer
http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/showt ... p?t=160396

... you d be self certified by them. I for one hate to give ready made answer, customization is the feel of the day, so only you ll know best.

And some terminology you will need to understand to discuss LEDs with your friends and similar folklore

BTW, no one said it is easy to plan for a perfect fixture, so take it slow and it will take time, then come back with specific questions- I can try best to help, so will other experts here. :thumup

I one i found very easy to understand and very helpfull was by very own member sumer
http://playsofrays.blogspot.in/2012/12/ ... -easy.html

So given the calculation by summer
for your tank, required LED will be 30 watt, Following is from sumer blog
Numbers of LED to use = The area of footprint of your tank / 22.

Let’s say your tanks is 24”x12”x14” [LxBxH] the area of the base would be- 24”x12”= 288 sq inch.
Now to calculate the no of LEDs to use- 288/22= Around 13 LEDs would be needed

I think that must be some simplified ratio after many trial and errors, just like why one says 3watt per gallon. Where it started -no one knows.
Also am guessing the number 22 is for heights around 14" and not more as obviously you need more light for tall tanks.

Rajiv ji, so I know one thing, you hate homeworks lol :LOL
Give me sometime and I ll tell for yours.
