Introducing....a new algae champion

Unread post by apuda2010 »

This is the Crossocheilus latius...also known as the Turbo Algae Eater. Here is more info on this fish...http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/cr ... us-latius/.

I have 3 of these in my tank. They have wiped out EVERY form of algae (including the dreaded BBA) clean from wood, stones, filter etc. They dont pick on the glass. Very playful fish, peaceful ...keep jumping around and chasing each other.

The source is Andrewda.

Some of the Indian fishes are good algae eaters but today one more fish in my list...

Believe me Rajiv...I fail to see why hobbyists need to buy Otocinclus and Amanos at such exorbitant rates when such graceful fish are available in out rivers and streams.

Andrewda is doing an amazing favour to all hobbyists by promoting the native species.

Dada, to fight algae, I trust on Rosy barbs. They are amazing creatures in eating algae. But would like to introduce these fishes in my tank in future.

No Sai...but they don't burrow , if that's your concern. I would be more worried with Corys than with these.

exactly bro, expect them to pull out the small plants- so thats fine. Or one more concern is whether they eat up anything like goats?

Nope...they appear to feast on the algae growing on stones and wood. Andrewda informs me that the place where he picked them up is basically a pool kind of environment of a steady stream, and they appear to be forever nibbling on the algae in the water.
