Be Indian, buy Indian.. Go for our barbs,.. they're hardy and very active.. Colourful and pretty too. Require very less hardscape and start eating from your hand on very first day.

Selection of fish should depend on individual preferences. Please let us know about your tank ideas and landscape that you would like at your home.

I agree with sushant. Here are some options I can think of(including options by other members), decide for yourself.
African cichlids - malawi best bet, as they are lively and colorful
A bunch of Small CA/SA cichlid community - firemouths, salvinis, convicts, severums, HRPs, nicaraguas, etc OR angels, rams, bolivian rams, some hardy tetras, plecos, etc.
native setup - barbs, chromides, gobies, catfishes, killifishes(panchax, lineatus), etc (barbs especially as karthick mentioned are spectacular colored and active fishes)
african setup - kribensis cichlids and congo tetras maybe some anubias here and there
general community - lots of compatible tetras, rasboras, goruamis, rams, angels etc with a few hardy plants like aponogetons, crypts, echinodorus and anubias.

Amazing suggestions from members....
Whatever the hobbyist keeps, he must be sure that he uses Google to learn about the species after taking up any suggestion, he should find out about EVERY species he keeps before he decides to keep it. Learning beforehand makes the species even more enjoyable and prevents bad experiences that might make you want to leave the hobby again.
