Sir genus Nymphaea means water lily. The plant in your pond is water lily. Lotus is Nelumbo nucifera with leaves above the water surface.

You are right. Most of my family members call it lotus, so always it is lotus for me.

Nice arrangement. I have also covered the tank with a net. Temperature is very low so now my lily is not flowering. Is everything normal?
