Pseudosphromenus Cupanus- The Indian Spiketail Paradise fish
Hi Guys,
Presenting one more Indian Beauty, the P. Cupanus. This is an anabantid closely related to the gouramis and the bettas, the fish expert tell me. Collection location is Kerala. I had a spare tank running, so housed two specimen in this. They both seem to be males, flaring and circling at each other always. Getting 4 more this week, let's wait and watch if they pair up. It would be fun to see their breeding behaviour, flaring at females etc.
These fish are amazingly aggressive for their size. The specimen that I got is about 1.5-2", I mistook them to be docile and housed them in the tank which had a quite a lot of RCS (Expendables, you see ). They went for all the rcs and wiped out the population completely.
The tank:
1' Cube with some anubias, oak ferns, tenellus, marsilea, P.Gayi and a good variation of ALGAE.
Some shots of the fish:
Diet: blood worms, shrimp E and of course, live shrimp. They devour the live shrimps like devils.
Temperatment: Adjust very quickly, highly intelligent, they recognise when you're dropping food and when you're getting in the tweezer for some planting/layout
changes! Prefer very slow/no water flow. Hence, I've not used any filter in the tank.
Will update more pics in coming days, they're supposed to colour up even more.
Cheers,
Karthik

Thanks Sushant ji! These guys are great at hiding. So maybe when I took the pic they were hiding inside that anubias-oak ferns bush.sushant wrote:great fish Karthik would love to more of them in future. the tank is equally good i spent the first 2 min on the first Pic playing "spot the fish contest" and lost
