Buy SEOL LED, 42 buck is cheaper one, but lumen per watt will be less. Also 1 point, try to ask for specs, like model, they will show you the original packing, so you can either note the model no and then get the specs from Net, that really helps in deciding how many you need.

Pic? :LOL

Hey, wanted to know what are your lumens per gallon? You tank specs in inches are L = 48, H = 24 and W = ?

The tank is around 240 litres. I have not calculated the lumens per gallon. The reason is that the CREE LEDs are rated for full power at 1.5A. I run mine at 1.0A. To calculate the lumens, I will need a light meter. However, XP-G data sheets mention that these LEDs deliver 345 lumens when driven at 1A (~3W).

Also note that lumens per gallon has little significance. Unlike flourescent or PLL or MH lighting , LEDs depend upon external optics for either focussing or diffusing light. Therefore, the correct way to measure would be to use PAR instead. This is especially true for marine setups where Royal Blue LEDs and XP-G Cool White LEDs are used.

I think these were always rated at 5W - 1.5Ax3.25V is nearly 5W !!

A piece of information for all hobbyists wanting to go down the LED path....

Philips has launched a product called the Linea. The construction is like a tube. It comes in 12 inches, 24 inches and 48 inches sizes. There are two variants - cool white (6500K) and warm white (3000K).

The 24 inches tube produces 1250 lumens at 15W. The angular spread appears to be around 200 degrees. The light is highly penetrative. I have replaced two 23W CFLs at my home with one 24inch tube and the brightness is dazzling.

For hobbyists, I recommend that the outer casing be stripped and some lenses be mounted on the LEDs to make the focus sharper. That way we will get more coverage of light at the substrate level.

The unit has a built in driver, is constructed to last 10 years and costs 1800 for a 2 incher. Definitely worth the money.
