Want to keep Percula Clownfish
Hi All,
Its been a long since I had a desire to keep a marine tank, now slowly chalking up the plan to have it finalized..
Keeping freshwater fishes and inverts for some time so,
Need your help in my marine tank preparation-
1. Will be keeping only percula clown fish may be a small group of them(Yeah Nemo Inspired one more )
2. What is the minimum tank size required for them?
3. Filtration - Sump or Canister will work?
4. Lighting?
5. I have studied a brief that they require anemone, so please let me know what are the easily maintained anemones and what are the things require to keep them.
6. And do I require protein skimmer or water change will require?
7. What are the ideal water parameters...
Presently only I have an empty tank with sea salt(brought to breed nerite snails) and hydrometer.

Re: Want to keep Percula Clownfish
Here is what my friend Yogesh said
1. Will be keeping only percula clown fish may be a small group of them(Yeah Nemo Inspired one more )
they like to be in groups so try to get more than 4 fishes 6-8 is ok for a medium size tank
2. What is the minimum tank size required for them?
Forgot to ask this but he mentioned that they grow upto 3 inches in size so i dont think much bigger tank will be required
3. Filtration - Sump or Canister will work?
any
4. Lighting?
Fish dont require light, its for humans to view them unless some plants/animals are kept which require light for making food
5. I have studied a brief that they require anemone, so please let me know what are the easily maintained anemones and what are the things require to keep them.
forgot to ask that too, will ask him about this, but he mentioned that if your are just keeping Clownfish then anemone are not required, but if you keep them they will feel like home, and also breed (one good thing about them is they change thr gender if required for breeding
6. And do I require protein skimmer or water change will require?
if not too much of bioload then regular water change will work
7. What are the ideal water parameters...
Temperature - they like warm temperature 23 to 28 Degree c so no chiller is required
he mentioned something SG i dont know whats that may be specif gravity 1.020 -1.025
and dont know DCH also which he said 7-11
Food is anything non veg
If you have any specific questions i can ask them too
Thanks

Re: Want to keep Percula Clownfish
LOL ok i helped set one like this a while back
1. Will be keeping only percula clown fish may be a small group of them(Yeah Nemo Inspired one more )
What yogesh said
2. What is the minimum tank size required for them?
55 gallon and above
3. Filtration - Sump or Canister will work?
go the traditional way for marine tanks. internal hidden
4. Lighting?
nothing special. CFL will do
5. I have studied a brief that they require anemone, so please let me know what are the easily maintained anemones and what are the things require to keep them.
Yes yes yes. a BIG requirement. linking to Reef site i use for reference. will help out a lot. http://www.3reef.com/forums/inverts/bes ... 69310.html
6. And do I require protein skimmer or water change will require?
no need for a skimmer really but wont hurt & yes you do need water changes.
7. What are the ideal water parameters...
again nothing very special but just a cycled tank

Just cos it happened to you is no means for you to claim that it will happen to me. Exceptions aren't the rule.
