Dried Forest
hello every one,
I am planning to start up a new setup. (thanks to romibro, he is the main inspiration after posting his rams breeding and me reading it, thought of doing some change) As the name suggests my plan is to do a hardscape setup with loads of woods and some rocks. This will be a very budget effective and low tech setup as I am saving for a new 6 or 7 feet Hi-Tech plantation with all ADA equipments.
Suggestions are welcome and will be valued please feel free to drop in your suggestions.
Name: Dried Forest (amazon biotope)
Tank size: 4 feet X 1.5 feet X 2 feet
substrate: golden sand
background: black paper
temperature maintained: 26-28 degree Celsius
Filtration: please suggest, want cost effective filters, 2 power filters on each end of the tank OR eheim 2217 OR elite crystal flo
lighting: the tanks roof is already set with 4 T5's, but will reduce it to 2 T5's one in timer and one on regulator* (to dim the lights)
Flora: 8 wild caught mikrogeophagus ramirezi (i know this will be a huge setup for this little fish, but i am planning to concentrate on this species at the moment)
may be few strebai cory OR panda cory ( not sure, suggestions are open)
Fauna: varieties of anubias attached to wood, as this will be low maintenance tank without co2 and low light (any other low light plants suggestions will be counted into )
Decoration: Loads of driftwoods and rocks. how about some almond leaves ?
1) as i am planning for rams and sterbai corys only should i go for black water ? any special requirement to get this condition ?
2) will the rams show their true color in sand substrate ?
this is the reference of something i am looking to set

reason to use golden sand is cost effective and may be after some time this set up might be converted in to geophagus sp red head tapajos or discus setup
the tank will be set in my bedroom, and very near to bath are so maintaining the tank will be bonus, will be able to change 15% water every second day as an added benefit. So can cut down on filter cost also
please feel free for all your suggestions. Hope this tank starts soon

Re: Dried Forest
very interesting... instead of bathroom you should have it near to garden or potted plants, so that water and nutrients are not wasted.
